Which size moving box should you buy?
There are three sizes, and the rule is that the smaller the box, the heavier the thing that goes in it. Small takes books, tins and tools. Medium takes most of the kitchen, linen and toys. Large takes bedding and cushions — bulk without weight.
Small box
Books, tinned food, tools, records, crockery, anything dense.
The rule that saves your back: the smaller the box, the heavier the thing. A small box of books is already about as much as you want to lift.
Medium box
Most of the kitchen, linen, toys, shoes, small appliances.
The size most of a house ends up in. If you only had one size, this is it.
For comparison, Storage King lists its medium at 30 × 33 × 40cm, $4.50 each.
Large box
Bedding, pillows, cushions, lampshades, winter coats — bulk without weight.
Large boxes are for light, awkward things. Fill one with books and nobody will be able to pick it up.
