Moving boxes delivered: who delivers in NZ, and what it costs
Yes, you can get moving boxes delivered anywhere in New Zealand, but the delivery line varies more than the boxes do. On 29 October 2026 Conroy Removals charged a fixed $75, PIY priced delivery at checkout with one to five working days by region, and crate hire firms in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch included delivery and pick-up in the hire price.

Who delivers cardboard moving boxes in New Zealand?
Four kinds of seller will send cardboard boxes to your door: removal companies with a box shop, self-storage chains, a kit-by-courier seller and the hardware chains. This is what each one published about delivery when we read their sites on 29 October 2026. Prices are in NZ dollars including GST.

How long does moving box delivery take?
Only PIY publishes transit times by region. After dispatch, which is the next working day after you pay, it lists same day in Christchurch, one working day to South Island main centres, two to the rural South Island, three to North Island main centres and four to five to the rural North Island. Bunnings says most online orders reach metro and outer-metro addresses in two to five business days.
So order at least a week before you plan to start packing, longer for a rural address. Packing a three-bedroom house usually takes several evenings, and boxes that arrive the day before the truck leave no time for it.

Can you get moving crates delivered instead?
In the main centres, yes, and delivery is usually part of the price. Crate hire firms drop plastic crates off, you pack and move, and they collect the empties from the new address. Nothing to flatten or recycle afterwards. Each firm covers its own area only, so check the address first.

Is delivery worth paying for, or should I collect?
Collect if a branch is close and you have a car that takes flat cartons. A full kit of flat cartons fits in most hatchbacks with the seats down, and Conroy's $75 delivery fee is more than its whole $61 small combo. Pay for delivery if you are rural, have no car, or are moving from an apartment where a trip to the shop means two lifts and a parking fine.
For a local move inside a crate firm's area, hire is often the simplest answer, because delivery and collection are already in the price and there is no cardboard left over.
- Work out how many boxes you need before you compare: our calculator does it by bedroom.
- Put the delivery fee and the boxes in the same sum; per-box prices mislead on small orders.
- Check rural delivery separately. Every seller above prices or times it differently.
- Order a week ahead of packing, not a week ahead of moving day.

We are not taking orders yet, because our courier rates are not set, and we will not quote a delivery fee we cannot keep.
