What moving boxes cost in New Zealand
Bought as a pack, a new moving box in New Zealand costs about $4 to $6. On the published prices we read on 29 September 2026, Conroy Removals' combos work out at $4.07 to $4.16 a box before its $75 delivery, and Storage King's packs at $4.97 to $5.90 a box with free click and collect.

How much does a moving box cost per box?
We divided each seller's published pack price by the number of boxes in the pack. Tape, paper and bags are left in the price rather than stripped out, so packs that include wrapping look slightly dearer per box than they really are. Prices are in NZ dollars, including GST, as displayed on each seller's site on 29 September 2026.

What does delivery add to the price?
Delivery is where the per-box numbers stop being comparable. Conroy Removals charges a fixed $75 to deliver, or you collect from a branch, which on its Small combo more than doubles the cost of the order. Storage King offers free click and collect from its stores. PIY prices delivery at checkout and publishes how long it takes instead: same day in Christchurch, one working day to South Island main centres, three to North Island main centres and four to five to the rural North Island.
So for a small move near a branch, collecting is the cheap option by a distance. For a rural address, or anyone without a car that takes 50 flat cartons, the delivery line decides the price more than the boxes do.

How much do single moving boxes cost?
Bought one at a time, the everyday sizes cost $3 to $7 and the specialist boxes cost two to four times that. These are the single-box prices each seller displayed on 29 September 2026; most offer a multi-buy that brings the everyday sizes back under $5.

Is a pack cheaper than buying boxes one at a time?
Usually, but not by much once you use the multi-buys. Ten of Storage King's heavy-duty medium boxes cost $40, or $4.00 each, which is less per box than any of its packs; what the packs save you is working out the mix, and the wardrobe box and wrapping you would otherwise forget. If you already know exactly what you need, single boxes on multi-buy are competitive. If you don't, a pack sized to the house is the safer buy.

- Check whether the pack includes tape and a wardrobe box; those are the two things people run out of on the day.
